EMDR is...

EMDR is a therapy technique that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of traumatic experiences ranging from adverse childhood experiences to sexual assault. Experiences from your past often impact your present and future concerns. Through EMDR therapy we can help you find resolution. After successful treatment with EMDR therapy, you will have the tools to cope with life on life's terms. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of long term trauma treatment in only a few sessions. I have been trained by the EMDR Institute which was founded by the creator of EMDR Francine Shapiro.

What is it like?

EMDR therapy is an interactive therapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. During EMDR therapy sessions, you relive traumatic or triggering experiences in brief doses while the therapist directs your eye movements. EMDR is thought to be effective because recalling distressing events is often less emotionally upsetting when your attention is diverted. This allows you to be exposed to the memories or thoughts without having a strong psychological response. Over time, engaging in EMDR will lessen the impact that the memories or thoughts have on you.
